Would working as an animal rights/welfare lawyer be a good career choice?
I love animals. Since I was little, I’ve made the decision to dedicate my life to them and improving their lives. Since volunteering at a local animal shelter, I’m completely disgusted by the things some people do to their animals. And because I live by the philosophy of ‘If you don’t like something, change it’: I have started asking myself: How can I change this madness?
One idea was working as an animal rights or an animal welfare lawyer. I know they exist. There are about 20 different fields they cover from bite victims, cruelty, animal custody issues, and so much more. I feel that I’d be able to be the voice for the animals and give them what they deserve.
My question is: Realistically, how good of a dream is this? What is it like being a lawyer? Is it boring? Will animal welfare lawyers make as much as regular lawyers?
I want to do something I enjoy while making a difference in the world. And, of course, I want to be successful woman and make a good living.
How can I prepare for this career while still in high school? What are some other careers if this one doesn’t seem good? What are your opinions? What can you tell me about the career?
If it makes a difference… I’m a 15 year old sophomore in Arizona, have a 4.1 GPA, volunteer at the United State’s 2nd largest animal shelter every Saturday as an adoptions counselor, and have been interested in law for a while. I just always consider it to be boring and I never thought that the fields would interest me… until I found that animal welfare law existed.
Thank you.

Is America becoming a secularist nation?
In light of all the recent (10 or so years) legislation barring “God” or the Ten Commandments, prayer in classrooms etc it appears that the US is becoming a secularist market place. Anyone can come here legally or not, our leaders do little beyond promise and lie. The authorities fail us at every turn, the courts separate fathers from thier children and few take personal responsibility for thier respective jobs; from the legislators to border patrol, to police, customer service, animal control, lawyers, judges and especially politicians you name it. Our Constitution has been shredded and wwaaayyy too many people have willingly given up thier freedoms, liberties and independence for a false sense of security underwritten by lies, slight of hand, sound bites and fancy footwork. This isn’t a sovereign nation founded on God anymore. Oh, and by the way anyone who is only comfortable with “how to fix your pc” types of questions go sit on a fork.

What is a person’s liability when there dog bites someone in there home?
I had a 20 month old american bull dog (not pit bull). He recently bit my daughters friend in the face causing alot of damage and probable scarring. The dog has never been aggressive before we have five children ranging in age from 1yrs old to11 and he has been great with all of them. He was also great with the neighbor dogs. The little girl that was bit is 11 and a very nice girl, she has been to our home many times and the dog knew her. She did not provoke the dog. I don’t know why this happened? The girls parents said there insurance is not going to cover her medical expenses. We do not have renters insurance, so what should I do now? Am I liable? and for how much? This little girl could need surgeries in the future for cosmetic purposes as well as help with psychological issues. Will I have to pay thousands of dollars, What should I do? We did put the dog to sleep (recommended by animal control but not required). The police said there will be no criminal charges. Do i need a lawyer?
I will add that we are very sad for this little girl too. We keep in close contact with her and we love her just like one of our own children. Her parents are not suing us, they just don’t want to be stuck with these bills either. There insurance company at this time is the one questioning us. Will the home owners insurance cover it, under the owners policy? Also I live in a “one bite state”. And again the police said that there will be no criminal charge, they stated that I was not a negligent owner. Thank you
I would pay for this girls medical bills even if it wasn’t my dog if I had the money. As I said before I have five children we do support ourselves however money is not something we have a bunch of. The reason we didn’t have renters insurance is because the owner told us we were covered under his home owners insurance but now he doesn’t want to report the accident. We are responsible dog owners we have never put one of our animals down before for doing something wrong, however animal control after taking everything into consideration urged us to do so, and the girls family wanted us to do it also. We are friends with this family and continue to remain close with them. We just want what is best for the little girl, and this eased her mind as well. We do also have to think of our own children, a lawsuit, and paying medical bills we cannot afford would affect there lives. This is something we never seen coming and it is hard for all involved.

Got bit by a monkey, can I sue the owner?
In July I was visiting a friend that lives in an apartment complex. A woman there had a monkey for a pet. The monkey didn’t like ciggarette smoke so I went to my car and sat inside. The woman came over to my car, the monkey jumped in my car and attacked me. It bit my finger very badly and it ended up getting infected. I am still having problems with my finger being swollen and sore and think their may be tendon damage. I would like to get a lawyers advice as far as sueing this woman but don’t really know what my chances might be for winning this case. Since it bit me, it has bitten another person and the woman has to get this monkey out of Wisconsin as it is considered a dangerous animal. Should I see a lawyer and what are my chances of winning this case?

A dog in India accused of biting people was sentenced to death in a court of law?
A dog in India accused of biting people was sentenced to death in a court of law.
Police demanded the severe action but the dog’s lawyer claims the pooch only bites people trying to enter his owner’s house.
In court, the dog, named Chhotu, appeared to be on his best behavior. Despite the room filled with people, Chhotu’s lawyer says Chhotu didn’t bark or bite anyone.
The case continues and Chhotu is due back in court on August 5th but this time with his owner, a childless widow who lives alone with Chhotu.
The woman’s lawyer says her neighbors are just trying to get their hands on her property.
This isn’t the first time Chhotu has been in trouble with the law. A magistrate sentenced Chhotu to death in 2003 but animal rights activists managed to get the decision reversed.
how crazy???

What are my legal rights? In FL?
yesterday evening my neighbor shot my dog with a bow and arrow. We had to have him put down. My dog is/was raised with 2 kids, others dogs and cats. Not to mention all the people we have over all the time. He has never attacked or bitten anyone or anything. My neighbor’s story to the police is that my dog went into his yard while he was doing target practice with the bow. That my dog started growling at his 3 yr old son. That he shot at the dog and had no idea he actually hit him. The bow was going straight through his ribs, one side to the other. It looked to be a pretty well aimed shot. Is it legally ok to use deadly force on an animal for growling? Not lunging forward, not attacking, just alleged growling. The police are handing it over to the states attorney, but if nothing happens we plan on contacting a lawyer.
We do not believe that our dog went over there and just started growling at a little kid for no reason, if at all. The shot taken does not appear to be a self defense shot but a well aimed shot.
Ok, I did some research and then called local animal control. They have the right to protect themselves, property, and whatever. I think I should still consult with a lawyer.

my neighbors dog bit me?
So here I am reading at my house, and out of nowhere, my neighbors dog is continuously barking at something stupid. So I walk across the street and smack the dog, and she bites me. Now I am trying to sue the owners for owning a dangerous animal.(People shouldnt even own dogs). But no good lawyers will represent my case unless I give them lots of money, and everyone is making excuses for the dog. Its a Siberian Husky.

what rights do I have if my dog clawed or bite a child in my home?
my dog either bite a child or got him with his claw in his check area, animal control didn’t give me any tickets as they are unsure what happened because the report that was done at the hospital says dogbite?? dog clawed?? No I have a lawyer calling me about medical bills, the child was under care of his grandmother across the road from where I live and according to the grandmother he was not suppost to be in my yard. the child came into my home where the dog was and was pulling on his collar the dog barked and the child said the dog jumped up, there for I think the dog got the child with his claw.. Do I have any rights in this matter as the child was not suppost to be in my yard or home? Am I still responsiable for the medical bills? I have never been though this if anyone can help me thank you.

What legal actions can be taken when bitten by a dog?
My 11 year old sister has been bitten by our neighbor’s dog and this isn’t the first time that dog bit someone. The dog bit her 4-5 times, punctured her skin and she had to go to the ER but didn’t need any stitches. She wasn’t bothering the dog or anything. It came from behind her and starting biting all of a sudden, on the sidewalk (not the dog’s territory), in the presence of his owner. (2 kids: approx. 15 and 11) We called a lawyer and he said he won’t do anything since the owners don’t have home-owner’s insurance and it’s going to take a long time to find an alternative and we should just call animal control and they will look into the dog’s history. But it’s that all? I don’t think they will take away the dog since it probably has all its shots and everything. So they won’t suffer in any kind of way. But my sister is the one suffering the most, she’s missing school, her leg hurts and its still bleeding and she’s also scared. Is there anything else we can do? My whole family is in shock because this is the first time this has happened to us and we usually try to avoid dogs because all of us are pretty much scared of dogs.
My sister is suffering so why shouldn’t they for not being able to handle their dog? They should face the consequences for endangering somebody else.
You can’t sue for pain and suffering in NY’s small claims court.
Animal control said they will have to go through a lengthy process which involves getting the report from the police, the hospital, etc. before they can remove or quarantine the dog. How long will that take?
Any other alternatives?
