Would you like to know the benefits of socialism?
Benefits of Socialism
Under capitalism workers receive only a small fraction of the wealth that they alone produce, while the lion’s share goes to the capitalist owners and to the bankers, landlords, insurance companies, lawyers, politicians, and all the other parasites who live off the back of labor and perform no useful work. By ending this robbery of the working class, socialism will enable workers to enjoy the full fruit of their labor.
Socialism would also enable us to raise our living standards dramatically by ending the billions of dollars thrown away on arms production and “defense,” by ending the waste, duplication and inefficiency of capitalist industries, and by returning millions of soldiers and unemployed workers to useful occupations.
In socialist society there would be no wage system. Workers would receive the social value of their labor. And since the people would collectively own the industries, anyone would be free to select any occupation in which he or she has an interest and aptitude. No longer would workers live under the fear of being laid off, or be compelled to spend their lives at some job they hate or are unsuited for. Also, since the people would collectively own the colleges and universities, no longer would workers be denied education or training because they lack the money to buy it.

it seems to have worked wonderfully for russia, cuba, and china!
Socialism is a dream buddy. I understand the benefits…but it is not realistic.
Its this simple, if I work hard to make 6 widgets and my neighbor makes 2 widgets…we end up with 8 widgets between the two of us. We split that up 2 ways and we end up with 4 widgets each. He gets more than what he produced and I get less than what I produced…how is that fair to me? So I decide, why make 6 widgets? I should only work as hard as my neighbors because there is no incentive for me to work harder. So then I only make 2 widgets the next week and we end up with 4 widgets, 2 a piece. There is no incentive to do anymore than your neighbor or do just enough to survive…which means the end of growth and the end of innovation, because there is no incentive for it.
ideally it’s fab, realistically it doesn’t work
Look @ Cuba and Venezuela for instance.
Since socialism became the norm both countries (esp the working class) have suffered greatly and been stuck in a society where only the currupt get ahead
we need to find a balance between capitalism and socialism.
bankers and automakers are now for socialism.
If you see that as a benefit, you are delusional.
Good answer…. I couldn’t have explained it better.
Now what’s your question?
Socialism only works when there is wealth. And there’s no wealth left in America. We are officially anti business, anti growth and anti freedom. Welcome to the Socialism of Cuba.
Yes, I would & it seems like thanks to Bush our country is going in that direction…I have republican friends who hate that a black man is President but if they wouldn’t have voted for Bush, Obama might have not had a chance so thanks republicans!
Wow, you’re quite the dumbass :]
I’m Libertarian, thankyou. Now you have a socialist president, who will destroy the country. Enjoy.
I’d rather have Russia tell me the benefits of Socialism.
Benefits of Socialism
Its called RUSSIA. If you like it all that much, move there.
move to North Korea or Cuba , they will love you there
Very informative…thank you…and to anyone interested, populism is always an interesting area of study.
This is irrelevant to the election. McCain even said Obama is not a socialist on Larry King Live a week before the election.
Yes yes that sounds nice and cool but what happens if by some twist of fate I manage to rise above the masses and God forbid become rich beyond my wildest dreams? Will that just be stripped away from me?
Yeah it sounds very good on paper, and would be wonderful if that were actually possible. The problem lies with the few, not the masses. As the old saying goes, “The devil’s in the details.” The majority of the people would seem to benefit, but there would still be a ruling class, who would make all the decisions concerning our lives. We would loose our freedom. To me, freedom is the Greatest thing we actually possess. All else is of little importance. Without freedom, we are just pets in cages.
sure when pigs fly
So “hard work” would be compensated the same way as “not so hard work.”
Let me keep my American dream… there is an inherent reason that everyone wants to come here… and that’s a capitalist society…
Our country is the greatest in the world… if you like socialism move to Europe.
Your little dissertation appears to have come from a naive mind that has been brainwashed. Your scenario sounds so idyllic, but has proved in practice to produce poverty and oppression. The only people who still believe in socialism are those who never have had to live under it.
Fidel told my parents the same thing.
Look at Cuba today.
Thank God they came to America.
Why dont you move to Cuba then??
Youre obviously a foreign troll.
Now get the f*ck off the internet Hugo Chavez!
Name one socialist country that has truly succeeded. America is great because of capitalism.
America is the greatest country on earth. We did not get where we are through socialism. People don’t like what America is becoming, but guess what, that could be because we have adopted many socialist policies over the last 20 years. This used to be a country of patriots. A country to be proud of. Socialist programs bring this country down.
I understand how people can be angry at the elite. We work hard all day long for people in suits with nothing better to do than go out and play golf. That is irritating, I admit. What is great though, is that we can all become like that. Not everyone will of course, but all it takes is determination, hard work, and a few good ideas. I am not saying that some people don’t have it easier than others, but there have been plenty of people who grew up in the slums and are now millionaires. Will a socialist country allow that?
AWESOME, sounds “FAIR” to ME!!!
You need to do your research better. Socialism is the end of freedom. Period. I don’t need the government telling me what health care I need, where to go to get it, etc. That is B.S. If everyone makes the same in your socialistic la-la-land, then where is the incentive to do any better? Does that make the value of the dollar go up? Hell no. Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves, as would all the men and women who died for your freedom.
So if everybody can pick their dream job, who will be the dishwashers, busboys, garbagemen, and laborers of our community? Surely you would not pick those over being a doctor?
OMG, I am so evil because I want to keep the money that I earned, and not give it all away to all the lazy people who are more than capable to work.
Socialism will NOT raise the standards of living, look at Venezuela, once they became socialist, their standards of living plummeted.
There are no benifits
Get back to me when you’ve woken up.
The dangers of the socialism are 1) it often is unjust in taking lawful property from individuals through excessive taxation, 2) it substitutes the collective judgment of the government for the freedom and judgment of the individual 3) it discourages initiative and entrepreneurship by individuals, and 4) it leads to excessive government power and hence corruption.
“Some paradox of our natures leads us, when once we have made our fellow men the objects of our enlightened interest, to go on to make them the object of our pity, then of our wisdom, ultimately of our coercion. It is to prevent this corruption, the most ironic and tragic that man knows, that we stand in need of the moral realism which is the product of the moral imagination”.
Lionel Trilling, a respected man of the contemporary liberal left
these are only a few of the many problems of socialism. I love my country the way it is.
Thank you Karl. All philosophy sound good on paper. Its when men who want change get it. Look at what happened to the revolutions in Russia and Cuba. They were based on the writings of Karl Marx. Yet when put into play it does not work because to many people are lazy if given the chance. To many wanted to see only their vision for what the country will become. Trotsky was kicked out because he maintained that the revolution had been corrupted by those wanting power. Cuba is a joke. Unless you get 100% of the people to accept it, it won’t work. In any form of government that wants the power to tell its people what it can and can not do will fail. People by nature are independent and don’t want others telling them what to do ever minute of every day. The society you describe is static and will never advance technologically. It would disrupt the ” socialist order of things” and cause disruption in manufacturing. The greatest teacher of socialism was Confucius (Kung Fu Tuz). He taught that society was static, no upward or downward movement. If born into a fishing family, you will be a fisherman. You could not change because it would disrupt the balance. He also gave use present day bureaucracy. And at the local, state and federal it is very static and inefficient. To many petty people with power in petty places. A Democratic Republic is the best trade off, as long as the people have the power and not the state, its the best for modern times. Socialism will only work in very low tech manufacturing that supports a vast agricultural society.
bigger government and less incentive to work?
In socialism everyone would turn lazy because there is no incentive to be productive. You get $X no matter how hard you work or how innovative you are. That is why it will never work.
You’re forgetting one thing. We have yet to see Socialism prove itself. The only thing it ends up proving is that it doesn’t work the way you’d ideally expect it to. Why? Because when you have a people that have little motivation to work since they can’t experience the fruits of their labors, productivity decreases, which means GDP decreases, which means the economy is no bueno. If you think you’re the first that can make it succeed, then by all means. However, a free market is the best way to go. History also proves that.
Comrade as they say in Minsk , you can be my next natalia , now I am luckiest man alive
