How do you feel about lawyers in general?

I just went through a divorce…. and wow did i get so scammed from the lawyer. I KNOW not all lawyers are bad ( my dad was one and he is the best man i know), and i know they have a bad rap. I spent SO much money- and basically had to do all the work except for the legal documents. I ended up dealing with my ex in the end and resolved everything. I had a worse time dealing with my attorney than dealing with my ex. I felt like i was working for him and not the other way around… like it was such a chore for him. Well- i know its done and i should move on. Thanx for letting me vent- just wanted to know if anyone had same experience.

    Lawyers are, generally, out to make money. They are a business – and although they are dealing with the law, they are not necessarily about fairness and justice.

    i think female lawyers are really nyce.. id definitely get a piece of a lawyer ass someday

    lawyers for the most part are the scum of the earth!…. what gives them the right to demand 1/3 or more in fees if you were the one hurt in an accident? The whole legal system in this country is bullshit!

    Some are good.some bad..but I have always had good experiences from any I’ve used.

    Generally, lawyers are the least respected profession in the country. Their "Let’s sue somebody" commercials don’t help. I would not trust a lawyer to do what is in my best interest, unless it was in his or her own best interest also.

    There is a book called Dancing With Lawyers by Nicolas Carrolls.
    It is a book you must read before going to see a lawyer.

    I don’t think that lawyers are that bad….i mean it depends on the lawyer, the situation, and all the facts. As far as you doing all the work I would have ended it there because i would have gotten another lawyer. I know alot of lawyers and they don’t seem to be that bad. As far as the money problem, just look at the bright side….IT’S OVER! lol, well good luck

    I’m sorry you had a bad experience with a lawyer, why didn’t you fire him and get another?

    To all the other people who answered this question and complained about 1/3 contingency fee- go to court and represent yourself, see how much that gets you.

    99 % of lawyers give the rest of the profession a bad name.
