In 2002 I had an accident claim. The lawyer & doctor had this deal that the lawyer would take her cut & the doctor’s cut (pay him directly), then I’d get the rest of the settlement. Lawyer never gave me proof of payment. Last year I was contacted by collections for this balance. After several calls, my lawyer said she’d handle it & I asked for the copy of a cashed check again, which never came. Last month I was denied credit, got a copy of my report, this $4500 bill is on it.

For over a month my lawyer has refused to speak with me. I’ve spoke with 2 paralegals who give me different answers about getting a copy of this. One said it was ordered & would be in within 2 weeks, 3 weeks later another tells me it was never ordered. Collections has told me she contacted them last year & would send the copy of a cashed check, which she never did. Now I’m lost at what to do. I’m convinced it was never paid. Is there anything I can do besides filing a complaint with the board?

Wanted to add I’m aware how dumb it was to work with a lawyer who worked directed with a doctor…in my defense I was 19 at the time & my father had me convinced it would work out better that way. I’m totally aware what an idiot I was & that I didn’t help the situation at all, but I’m trying to dig my way out of this mess now. Thanks again.

I have signed all the checks to everyone who is to be paid…hospitals, doctors, in-home nurse, lawyer. I was supposed to pick up a cashier’s check tomorrow from his office. Now, he said he needs to see if there are any liens against me and I have to call Wednesday. I appreciate all the feedback so far.
It was a severe car accident and negotiations were with my health insurance company (according to my lawyer). It makes no sense to me as I was told that everything was over and I only needed to pick up a check and sign some papers. Any further feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I had $20K in medical alone and $6K in missed wages. The fact of the matter is, I know I will need future treatment and I deserve to be compensated for this. The ins. co. offered me 40K. I feel thats way to low for how miserable I feel. Should I get a lawyer? I hate to think of paying them a third, when I’ve already done all the grunt work and am at the negotiation stage. HELP!

One year and a half ago I was injured (neck disc injury) in an auto accident. Other person was at fault and cited. I have never, pursued a claim and thought them frivolous and/or exaggerated UNTIL IT HAPPENED TO ME. I was injured without personal medical or PIP on my auto insurance and I had no option but to get a lawyer after a trip to the ER.

Injury didn’t require surgery but lawyer cancelled my $6000 steroid shot into my neck, the day of the appointment, to ensure insurance of faulty driver was going to pay it. So I went from Oxycotin for pain to Ibuprofen while they resolve issues.

It’s been over a year since that pain shot was scheduled and canceled. I’m sure it can be a very broad range, but does anyone have a idea what I can expect time wise? This whole thing has been a nightmare and I was just on my way to work one morning.

We were stopped behind a stop sign and a driver who was not paying attention lost control of his vehicle at 75 mph and rolled half way on top of us. My son, daughter and I were all rushed to the hospital by ambulance while my husband stayed at the scene. I was the only one in the car who was seriously injured so we hired an attorney for my case. We settled within a couple months for my son, daughter and husband for $3,500 each. This put about $1,000 in pocket per person for pain and suffering. My PCP recommended I treat with a Chiropractor. I did so for 4 1/2 months before finally being released from his care. The other person’s insurance company immediately accepted responsibility as they reimbursed my deductible for my totaled car immediately. He only has minimum liability which in Arizona (where we live, and the accident took place) is 30/15 $15,000 max for property and $30,000 max for personal injury per accident but it’s only $15,000 per person.

I met with my attorney and we discussed how I have under-insured/uninsured motorist coverage. I finally finished treating and the lawyer just evaluated my case at a min. of $13,000 and a max of $16,000. They take 25% off the top then my $6,000 in medical bills get paid out.

This to me seems low. I couldn’t lift my arm to hold my 3 week old son because of the muscle spazams in my back. And I’m only going to get $4,000ish in pocket when we got that without an attorney for my family who suffered NO injuries?! Help me before it’s too late! It sounds as if they’re only dealing with the other guys insurance company, though AllState, my insurance company, contacted me months ago letting me know they’re awating a claim to be filed with my under-insured motorist coverage.
